A discussion to provoke thought on the challenges and opportunities in returning to the workplace post COVID 19.

As 2021 unfolds now is the time for us all to be turning our attention to the needs of our people as they once again seek to establish a sense of normality, and effectively support them in returning to work and the workplace in a way that meets their needs, and the needs of our customers and the broader community.

Our panellists will provide insights on their recent experiences of how organisations are preparing for this important transition period, how individuals can help to craft an experience that meets their needs and the important role that leaders play in supporting a safe and effective workplace.

Enhancing organisational culture and the employee experience, workplace safety and wellbeing, mental health and inclusion and reshaping and reskilling the workforce for the future will be just a few of the topics that we cover in the discussion.

Steph Waddon, Partner,  PwC

Steph is a workforce expert who specialises in supporting clients in transforming and transitioning their workforces; helping organisations develop the right skills, capability and capacity for sustainable organisational outcomes. Steph is interested in the changing nature of work, and how organisations can capitalise on digital transformation to create meaningful employee experiences; using technology to support creative cultures where people can thrive. Steph is passionate about people and supporting leaders drive effective change in an increasingly complex and ambiguous world. Steph holds a Bachelor of Science (Sociology) and a Masters in Human Resource Management.

Dr Ben Hamer, Director, Future of Work, PwC

Dr Ben Hamer (CAHRI) is an industry awarded strategic human capital specialist and futurist. He drives the Future of Work agenda at PwC Australia, having previously worked at the World Economic Forum, where he played a lead role on the future of skills, work, and education.

In addition, Ben has a Professional Doctorate of Public Administration, which included time spent as a Visiting Scholar at Yale University. He also has a Bachelor of Business Administration with First Class Honours from the Australian National University, is an Adjunct Fellow at Swinburne University’s Centre for the New Workforce, and is a Certified Practitioner of the Australian Human Resources Institute.

Dr Sharon Ponniah, Director, Health and Wellbeing, PwC

Sharon is a Director in our health practice and is a public health and policy specialist. She has worked in the public and private sectors managing research, evaluation and population health programs at State and National level, in Australia and New Zealand. She has held roles with the Ministry of Health New Zealand, worked for large Crown Entities, and for the George Institute for Global Health prior to entering consulting. With a PhD in public health, she is a published academic and continues to review NHMRC grants for public health and policy.

Sharon's career has been driven by a passion to reduce inequity, increase sustainability and impact social agendas. She has increasingly been supporting a number of public organisations and corporates to address mental health and wellbeing proactively, better understanding peoples' needs through career and life stages and the role of workplaces in supporting physical and mental wellness.

Sharon is currently working with our Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer to develop PwC’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy. Sharon currently sits on the Board of Rogue and Rouge, a not for profit aimed at transforming communities through facilitated mental health and wellbeing education. She helped Liz Broderick and the team at Male Champions of Change establish the first health group to drive gender equality across the industry and continues in this role as a Special Advisor.

Sarah McCann-Bartlett, CEO and Managing Director, Australian HR Institute

Sarah is a highly experienced leader of professional and trade bodies, with a passion to help members achieve their goals by providing world leading insight, support and advocacy. She is known as a transformational leader who drives change by bringing organisations, employees and stakeholders together to envision the strategy, agree the journey, and lead teams to deliver the desired outcomes. Prior to joining AHRI, Sarah held the positions of Director General of the British Constructional Steelwork Association and before that, Deputy Commissioner of the Building Commission. She also held a range of senior positions at the Woolmark Company in Australia, the UK and the USA. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts (international politics), a Bachelor of Commerce (economics), a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing and an MBA.
