Lean methodologies – The what, how and ROI of Lean and why OD practitioners need to be involved
What is Lean? At its core, Lean is a business methodology that promotes the flow of value to the customer through two guiding tenets: Continuous improvement and respect for people. Jim Benson of Modus Cooperandi defines Lean methodology in this way: “Lean is both a philosophy and a discipline which, at its core, increases access to information to ensure responsible decision making in the service of creating customer value.”
Lean methodology is not a new concept, but its modern application to business is constantly evolving. Lean has moved far beyond its original concept as a way of increasing manufacturing efficiency and is now a significant business methodology. This forum looks at Lean both from a methodology perspective through the lens of delivering value to the customer (external and internal) and how people, managers and executives are at the heart of a successful use and implementation of Lean.
This session will provide a number of significant case studies demonstrating the power of Lean, implications for people and organisations and how to make Lean investments more successful. We will explore how Lean can be a change tool in the OD practitioners ‘tool box’. This forum will be of value to HR, OD specialists and line managers, where the line manager is at a level to act as the sponsor of a Lean initiative or significantly influence a decision to go down the Lean path.
