Experiential learning – immersive and effective or expensive and pointless?

In this session Matt Connell, on behalf of the Geelong AHRI network committee and Vic Council, will take participants on an exploration of experiential and activities based learning programs.

This session will focus on the pros and cons of non-traditional learning programs that take participants outside of their comfort zones in immersive settings. The 70/20/10 model of learning will be considered in terms of how to affect lasting behavioural change.

This topic will appeal to L&D and HR professionals that are looking for a point of difference in their L&D program design and others that are considering incorporating different methods of learning into their curriculum.

Speaker: Matt Connell, Executive Workplace Consultant, Workplace Harmony Solutions

Matt is the current State President for AHRI in Victoria and long-time member of AHRI’s Geelong network. Matt is passionate about developing leadership capabilities in others so they may better empower, engage and enhance performance in their own teams. He’s coached hundreds of organisational leaders in understanding their impact on workplace cultures through 360 degree assessments based on Emotional Intelligence.

Matt spent 7 years in Adventure Travel and has worked and travelled in 6 continents driving zodiacs in Antarctica, taking tours to remote Aboriginal sites in Central Australia and on the Kokoda Track in PNG. His experience delivering leadership development programs has led to an opportunity to run an experiential leadership program on the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain in June 2020.
