Building the future Defence Industry workforce
The Australian Defence Industry is at a pivotal moment, with maritime construction activity set to provide enormous opportunities for industry participants and suppliers.
Now that the contracts for these large projects have been finalised, the industry is now moving to deliver these projects based in and around the Osborne Shipyards in Port Adelaide.
Join speakers from Naval Group Australia (Future Submarines), BAE Systems Australia (Future Frigates) and the Defence Teaming Centre to hear about the challenges and opportunities in building large workforces and supply chains to deliver these crucial projects for defence and the broader economy.
Speaker: Rachel Botting, GM Human Resources, Naval Group Australia
Rachel is the designer and builder for the Royal Australian Navy’s new Attack class of submarines. Rachel has previously worked in other HR roles in maritime defence projects managing the complexities and challenges of workforce needs for large projects.
Speaker: Leigh Hillier, Acting Head of Human Resources (Functions), BAE Systems Australia
Leigh Hillier is Acting Head of Human Resources (Functions) for BAE Systems Australia. BAE Systems supports and delivers more than 200 defence projects across all domains (aerospace, maritime, land and ISR). The company has the contract for the design and build of nine Hunter Class Frigates in Adelaide. Leigh has extensive experience across defence, the tertiary education sector and in planning and delivering workforce strategies.
Speaker: Peter Bauer, Assistant State Secretary, Australian Manufacturing Workers Union
Peter Bauer is the Assistant State Secretary of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (the AMWU) and has been at the forefront of organizing in the maritime construction industry in South Australia for many years.
