The Great HR Debate – Freedom of Speech and Work

2020 brings you the Great HR Debate in Mackay. In a first for the Mackay HR community, a formal debate will be conducted on “freedom of speech and employment”. Teams of three will argue their position on whether there is too much or not enough freedom of speech for employees both in and out of work.

Join members of the AHRI Mackay network committee and the broader Mackay HR industry to discuss this topical and divisive workplace issue. The debate will be adjudicated by an employment lawyer from a renowned Brisbane law firm and supported by two other local industry experts as judges.

Following the formal conclusion of the debate, there will be a presentation on the issue by the law firm along with a handout on some of the key aspects discussed. After the dust has settled somewhat, there will be an opportunity for networking and more free speech!

This is a great opportunity for both HR and communication teams from all industries to listen to both sides of the argument and ponder their organisation’s policies and practices when it comes to freedom of speech for staff.
