This session will be of particular interest to anyone who uses social media, whether for work or personal life, and for those who are involved in the management of issues arising out of the use of social media by employees or students. 
 

Topics to be discussed include: 

  a. Does an employer have the right to place restrictions on employee conduct out of hours?
  b. Is it ever OK for an employee to express contrary views about their employer?
  c. Obligations the workplace has to its staff, including to provide an environment free from discrimination and harassment
  d. Is damage to an employer's reputation alone a defensible basis for terminating an employee's employment?
  e. Issues arising from the use of social media by staff

Speaker: Shannon Chapman, Counsel, Ashurst

Shannon specialises in employment and industrial disputes and litigation. She regularly representing clients in conciliation conferences, mediations and hearings before different tribunals and courts. Including the Fair Work Commission, Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, Australian Human Rights Commission, Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Federal Court, Federal Circuit Court and Supreme Court of Queensland.
