Ruby is passionate about promoting psychological safety and organisational practices that enable individuals to perform and feel their best.

The current COVID-19 environment has increased our levels of stress, disrupted our sense of security and increased uncertainty about what lies ahead. As L&D professionals we can facilitate individual growth and learning where employees can continuously develop to be their best and have a positive impact on organisational development and culture.

In this session we will learn about Human Instincts, an evidence-based framework consisting of nine behaviours, common to all humans, founded on principles of evolutionary psychology. By understanding why humans behave in certain ways, we can make informed choices about how to respond in ways that align with our human nature, rather than battle against it.

Understanding human nature is something that most people wish they could do better. Like all other species, we are born with a set of instinctive behaviours. Interestingly, most of us don’t typically learn about them or how they can impact us in our day to day as part of our education or professional development.

Speaker: Ruby Otero, Founder, First in Mind 

Ruby is passionate about promoting psychological safety and organisational practices that enable individuals to perform and feel their best.

A registered psychologist and Founder of First in Mind, Ruby has a unique blend of experience in a range of industries across government and corporate sectors including aviation, defense, consulting, health and wellbeing. Ruby has served in the Australian Army, with extensive experience in Leadership, L&D, HR and WHS roles. Ruby’s military service was recognised in 2013 when she was awarded the Australian Conspicuous Service Medal as part of the Australia Day Honours, for commitment and devotion to duty in soldier rehabilitation, welfare and wellbeing.
