Workplace Investigations – whether and how to investigate

This forum will explore the importance of a sound initial assessment and preliminary triage process for workplace grievances, as well as the management of any subsequent workplace investigation. The session will include practical tips on how to assess the grievance / complaint impartially, map it to relevant legislative thresholds, conduct risk assessments and core investigation methodology.

This session will be most informative for HR Managers, Employee Relations Professionals, and Line Managers. You will gain an understanding of the IRAC framework – Useful in the initial triaging of matters. Sound guidance around the importance of a solid investigation plan, and what does a well-managed investigation “look” like? Tips on how to deal with anonymous complaints (including Case Study of a "well-managed" approach). And finally, skills for determining the most appropriate action/s to take, post investigation.

Speaker: Andrew Milwain, Culture & People Partner | Cartology and Marketing, Woolworths

Andrew Milwain is a HR professional with over 15 years’ experience across numerous sectors, including construction, mining, security services and retail. Andrew has extensive experience in Workplace Relations, and until recently was a member of the Woolworths Group Workplace Relations team, with responsibility for both tactical and strategic solutions across a range of policy and business areas, including eCommerce, Store Operations and Supply Chain.

Speaker: Christina Grover, Managing Director, HR Spectrum

Christina Grover is a Nationally Accredited Mediator and a sought-after Senior Workplace Investigator. She has extensive experience, working across a range of industries over the past 22 years. Christina's strengths include Workplace Investigations into bullying, harassment and other misconduct; mediations and facilitated discussions; “crisis management interventions”; management training and executive coaching; and the development of workplace culture.
