Managing your HR Network

The Emerging HR Professionals Network is pleased to present a series of events in 2019 all focused on helping you make the most of the AHRI and broader HR community. The events and forums will have a common theme around networking, and combine theory with opportunities to practice and hone your skills with other like minded professionals.

The first in the series is a “how to” – a practical presentation on Managing Your HR Network. Managing a network doesn’t just mean going to an event and greeting people with one hand and a drink in the other. It is an important part of personal and professional development that can help you achieve your personal and organisational goals. Networking can be both an inherent AND learned skill.

Networking isn’t just for real estate agents, recruiters, lawyers or people with business to sell. It’s also not just for sales people who like the sound of their own voice. Knowing how to build, cultivate, manage and leverage your network is an important tool for all, whether they be new or experienced, private or public, extrovert or introvert. Learning how to embrace networking is the first step to engaging in Network Leadership.

The other events in the series include:

• Speed Networking Event (April) – practice and hone your skills with your HR peers and colleagues. We’ll make sure there are some interesting and important people there so you can really get the most out of the opportunity to expand your network!
• Speed Mentoring Event (November) – a huge success last year.  A number of experienced, senior HR practitioners have again generously volunteered their time to offer pearls of wisdom, gold nuggets of advice and show you the silver lining. Learn from their successes and mistakes, and take the chance to ask the direct questions you’ve always wanted to ask.

More events are being planned – keep an eye on the AHRI Events and Networking website for updates!

Speaker: Andrew Marshall, Senior Account Manager, SHL

Andrew has 20 years’ experience in both the public (Federal and State) and private sectors. Commencing his APS career on a trainee-ship in a capability acquisition environment with Department of Defence, Andrew worked for a number of different government departments over 12 years before joining the private sector.

In the last 8 years, Andrew has worked for small boutique companies and large international organisations across recruitment, account management, internal HR and consultancy roles. Over the years, and especially during his transition from public to private, Andrew has learned the value in establishing and maintaining a large personal and professional network, and how these can be leveraged to achieve personal and organisational goals.
